Confession (1) | Second Sunday in Easter (Year C)

submitted by Scott Cervas, Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church, Lexington, Kentucky via LiturgyLink.Net.

a prayer of confession for the Second Sunday of Easter.

God, we are so much like the disciples that it isn’t even funny.
We’re afraid…scared to go outside and live resurrected lives;
scared to disconnect ourselves from systems that devalue other people;
scared to challenge the status quo,
because standing up to it will place us
on the outside of our own comfortable, privileged, lives.
Like Thomas, we want tangible proof, tangible results, and tangible rewards.
And until you deliver, we will stay where we are.
And where we are is exactly where we don’t belong.
So please, forgive our complacency,
and draw us to richer, fuller, resurrected lives,
even now, as we offer our silent confessions…

Prayer for Illumination (2) | Easter Sunday (Year C)

The following prayer for illumination is by Scott Cervas via LiturgyLink.Net.

Holy God,
remove the stones that block the portals of our minds…
shine your light so that it may take over the darkness within…
and fill our thoughts with your perfect vision for creation
so we may go, and tell, and be, and do.
Amen.

Invitation to the Table | Maundy Thursday (Year C)

The following invitation to the table is by Scott Cervas.

The parade is in the past…
the hosannas have hushed…
and Jesus has retreated to an upper room
to quietly dine with his disciples.

We’ve been invited to the table
to share in the mystery
of broken bread…
of a cup of wine…
and of feet humbly washed,
challenging us to eat, drink, and remember…together,
and to love and serve one another
just as Jesus loves and serves us.

We’ve been invited to the table
to see Judas get up from his seat
and walk out the door…
challenging us to look into our hearts,
and glimpse the signs of our own acts of betrayal.

So let’s take our place at this table…
where we sense our brokenness
and experience God’s grace
all at once.

Let us pray…

Prayer for Illumination | Palm/Passion Sunday (Year C)

The following Prayer for Illumination is by Scott Cervas, submitted via LiturgyLink.

Holy God,
in the midst of the loud “Hosannas!”,
as the waving palm leaves rustle in unison,
quiet our pre-conceived notions…
and hush our sure grasp of your truth…
so that we may, perhaps, discover something
about your vision…your hope…your purpose for our life…
that changes the way we think, act, and do.
Amen.

Assurance of Pardon | Palm/Passion Sunday (Year C)

I absolutely love this Assurance of Pardon submitted by Scott Cervas via LiturgyLink! Enjoy!

The bad news is…
no matter what you do or don’t do,
these lush, shiny, green palm leaves
are going to eventually wither, dry, and turn brown.

But the good news is…
no matter what you do or don’t do,
The tireless, relentless, limitless love of God
Always remains, unshakably, the same.

So let’s sing and give thanks to God!
