Prayers of the People (1) | Easter Sunday (Year C)

The following Prayers of the People is by Carol Penner via re:Worship.

God of the bright and morning star,
God of the rising sun,
God of darkness banished,
we praise and worship you!
For empty tombs: thank you!
For disciples running with good news: thank you!
For your presence, alive, powerful, resurrected: thank you!
We celebrate your victory over death,
over all the powers that would defeat us.

Help us to grasp resurrection;
to understand its power,
to see its force at work in our world,
overturning evil empires,
changing the hatred within us,
moving the world slowly, forcefully,
bending us towards love and truth.

On this day of great gladness
empower us to be your ambassadors,
proclaiming good news.
Good news in our kitchens and living rooms,
good news in the offices and workshops
good news in the fields and factories
Help us to be that good news,
walking softly on this good earth
caring gently for all people,
living hopefully into your kingdom.

Today we think of all who are grieving, especially…
[name those who are grieving]
and for the sick and dying….
[name those who are ill]
for places in the world that are torn by war and bloodshed…
[name countries at war]

In this world of broken hopes and dreams
we catch sight of your kingdom come,
in the person of Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns in us forever. Amen.

Hello, and thank you for providing these resources. I’m dead set against plagiarism in virtually every situation; except for prayers. I like to think that we “gather all our prayers into one” by sharing, borrowing, reflecting on and speaking the prayers in this and other forums. Here is my mash-up, using prayers posted here recently, of Prayers of the People for St. James Anglican in Fenelon Falls Ontario Canada for Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.:

Rejoicing in the mighty acts of God who has delivered us from sin and death through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Let us lift our voices and pray.
I invite you to add your own prayers silently or aloud during the times of silence,
and to join in the litany,
    Risen Lord,

    Hear our Prayer.
God of the bright and morning star,
God of the rising sun,
God of darkness banished,
we praise and worship you!
For your presence, alive, powerful, resurrected: thank you!
We celebrate your victory over death,
over all the powers that would defeat us.
    Risen Lord,

    Hear our Prayer.
    Help us to grasp the resurrection;
to understand its power,
to see its force at work in our world,
overturning evil empires,
changing the hatred within us,
moving the world slowly, forcefully;
bending us towards love and truth.
    Risen Lord,

    Hear our Prayer.
We pray for the Church, that it may carry forward the redemptive works of God:
For Susan our priest, Linda our diocesan bishop, and Colin our metropolitan,
that they may be given strength, wisdom and courage to lead.
For all gathered here in worship and prayer
and all who serve the church, here and around the world.

    (silence)
Empower us to be your ambassadors,
proclaiming good news,
in our kitchens and living rooms and neighbourhoods,
in our offices, workshops, fields and factories.
Help us to be that good news,
walking softly on this good earth
caring gently for all people,
living hopefully into your kingdom.
    Risen Lord,

Hear our Prayer.
    We pray for the nations and peoples of the world, that the powers that oppress and threaten may give way to justice, peace, and healing;
    (silence)
[North and South Korea, Israel and Palestine…]
Your kingdom come, on earth as in heaven.
    Risen Lord,

    Hear our Prayer.
We give you thanks for the multitude of blessings you shower upon us:
For our lives and for those whom we love,
For our families and our friendships,
    (silence)
    Risen Lord,

    Hear our Prayer.
    We pray for those who are sick; those who suffer; those who struggle; those who mourn;
    (silence)
[For First Nations communities living in poverty and despair]
May the hope born of Easter renew them and bring peace, that through their struggle they may come into closer communion with the you and with those who bear witness to your love.
We remember those who have died…
and commend them to your glorious grace and presence.
    Risen Lord,

Hear our Prayer.
In this world of broken hopes and dreams help us to catch sight of your kingdom come,
in the person of Jesus Christ,
who lived as one of us,
and with whom we are raised to new life.
    Risen Lord,
    Hear our prayer.
